Virtela Communications, Inc., announced a fully-managed solution
targeted at email protection needs of enterprises -- Virtela
Managed Mail Defense.

The solution utilizes four different spam filtering techniques
and updates black lists and white lists. It also provides
customers with up to two advanced anti-virus software engines
that incorporate proactive updates every five minutes for
ongoing, real-time protection from the latest viruses.

Undetectable to end users, it intercepts and analyzes email
outside of the corporate firewall in comparison to traditional
solutions that store spam and viruses on corporate servers.

Virtela's Managed Mail Defense service provides spam and content
filtering and antivirus protection via a geographically redundant
infrastructure for the highest availability. Virtela uses
filtering techniques to monitor both incoming and outgoing email,
taking certain actions when mail meets predefined criteria.
Filtered email can be allowed to pass through to its intended
recipients, or it may be quarantined, rejected, or rerouted
depending on the criteria it meets. End users can access their
quarantined email through periodic email notifications or by
logging directly into a web portal. From either, end users can
view their spam lists and accept, deny, or delete tagged email,
as well as manage their own internal list of allowable email
addresses.

The service is priced on a per user basis per month. Free 30-day
trials are available through March.
