***Openwave Announces Location Studio 2.0
(March 18)
Openwave Systems Inc., an independent provider of open software
products and services for the mobile communications industry,
today announced Openwave Location Studio version 2.0, middleware
to broker the secure exchange of location intelligence in
operators' networks with third party applications. Providing
subscriber privacy management and operator-defined subscription
policies, Openwave believes that Location Studio 2.0 will help
accelerate adoption of location services.
Openwave has been working closely with HP on e911 deployments and
is now expanding its location-based services and expertise to
bring commercial-based solutions to operators worldwide with HP.
The new service offering provided with Location Studio can handle
hundreds of location applications and millions of subscriber
requests, authenticating each one and preventing unauthorized
access. Subscribers can personalize their service, and are still
in control of their privacy, changing their service to meet their
needs at any time. Openwave also recently announced the Openwave
Mobile Developer Toolkit, which provides a set of resources to
enable developers to write compelling applications like location-
based services.
In addition to Openwave Location Studio, Openwave's wireless
location product portfolio includes Location Manager, Intelligent
Network Routing, Friend Finder and SafetyFirst. The majority of
the US operators have deployed SafetyFirst. Openwave's products
run on HP's platforms including HP NonStop server and Tru64 UNIX.
