***Ekahau Announces Ekahau Site Survey 1.0, Partners with Symbol
Technologies
(March 17)
Ekahau, a wireless positioning technology provider, today
announced the availability and pricing of the Ekahau Site Survey
1.0 (ESS) software. ESS connects the actual Wi-Fi network
performance data to each site location. It is designed to help
customers to deploy Wi-Fi networks faster, minimize the
interference and deliver better connectivity for wireless data
and voice. Ekahau also announced that it has signed an agreement
with Symbol Technologies, Inc., a provider of mobile data
transaction systems.
Ekahau Site Survey 1.0
Ekahau is using its Wi-Fi location-based services platform,
Ekahau Positioning Engine 2.0, as the basis of the ESS. ESS is
intended to help VARs and system integrators installing Wi-Fi
networks to optimize the network performance and connectivity.
ESS helps the customer find locations where the network coverage
is not optimal. It finds the areas with overlapping channel
interference and detects any rogue access point locations. ESS
displays the site survey results with multi-color maps, and helps
determine the optimal location for existing or new access points.
It also generates visual outdoor coverage maps with GPS support,
and utilizes for on-site planning with single or multiple access
points.
ESS starts shipping March 28th, 2003 with pricing starting at
$895.00 for the standard version, and $1,545.00 for GPS-assisted
outdoor Wi-Fi mapping.
Symbol Technologies Partnership
Under the terms of agreement, Symbol and Ekahau will be working
in co-operation to embed Ekahau's 802.11b-based indoor
positioning technology into Symbol's wireless barcode scanning
devices and systems. Symbol will be piloting the technology and
is planning to release location-based applications later in 2003.
Ekahau's patent pending positioning technology can determine the
location of mobile client devices in a standard Wi-Fi 802.11
network. The software-based product expands the usage of the Wi-
Fi network from a data transfer media to a real time location
tracking. Symbol believes that adding this technology is an
important move. They provide solutions to healthcare, warehousing
and manufacturing, where the logistics and workflow can be
significantly improved through the accurate location information.
For Ekahau, collaborating with Symbol provides a new global
distribution channel. Ekahau's other customers include wireless
software developers, system integrators, and international OEM
partners, who develop and market location-based applications.
