***AirMagnet Announces 802.11a and b Dual Band Network Analyzer
(January 21)
AirMagnet, Inc., a developer of wireless network management and
security assessment solutions, today announced The AirMagnet Duo
Wireless Laptop Analyzer. With a set of security and performance
features built into a single application, The AirMagnet Duo is
intended to allow users to manage, assess, troubleshoot and
secure 802.11a and 802.11b wireless networks simultaneously.
The AirMagnet Duo provides dual band monitoring and reporting on
one screen, has thirty security alarms and performance management
alerts (more than twenty-four in all) for management of more
sophisticated environments.
With the company's patent-pending AirWISE analytical engine, and
the power of a PC, The AirMagnet Duo provides a top-down view of
a network. The AirMagnet Duo uses the same interface as its
companion product, the AirMagnet Handheld, but takes advantage of
the large screen of a PC by using its Smart Screen technology to
display information without the use of scroll bars. The interface
also provides the ability to view up to 6 user-defined charts
simultaneously, and users can click on most elements to drill
down for more detailed information on the network being
monitored.
The AirMagnet Duo displays the entire 802.11a/b environment (all
14 channels in 802.11b and 12 channels in 802.11a) within a
single screen. This includes all bands worldwide, not just in
North America. This allows for monitoring of all real-time
statistics and alarms within the entire Wi-Fi spectrum, as well
being able to detect APs in use in 'unauthorized' channels.
With more than thirty different security alarms, users are able
to detect Rogue APs, MAC Address Spoofing and multiple types of
Denial of Service attacks. The product also validates 802.1x,
LEAP, TKIP and MIC, which allows network professionals to
establish and monitor network-wide security and use policies
appropriate for the network. Furthermore, when problems are
identified, a built-in Find Tool helps track down the physical
location of any AP on the network.
The AirMagnet Duo supports twenty-four performance alarms
specific to the wireless environment including, Hidden Node
Problems, Excessive Roaming and APs overloaded by bandwidth
requirements. AirMagnet stated that these capabilities are
arguably the most valuable to users, because they represent
problems that are foreign to some network professionals and can
be overlooked if not specifically sought out.
When a GPS device is connected to the laptop, the AirMagnet Duo
tracks GPS longitude and latitude information along with WLAN
devices and signal strength -- maintaining device location and
radio coverage in the real-time display. The GPS information can
then be imported into site survey mapping tools. The combined
benefits of The AirMagnet Duo and a GPS device can be applied to
three different applications including, outdoor site survey,
security survey on unintended radio coverage, and WLAN device
location sensing.
The AirMagnet Duo expands the company's line of wireless
analyzers. Other product offerings include mobile network and
security administration through the AirMagnet Handheld product
line that runs on a Pocket PC, and back office network and
security administration through the AirMagnet Laptop family of
products that run on a Windows-based PC. The products are
designed to work together by sharing data for analysis and the
identification of trouble spots.
The AirMagnet Duo is available immediately. The AirMagnet Duo
comes with a NetGear WAB501 802.11a/b Adapter Card and is priced
at US$3,495. Price includes 1 year of support and software
upgrades. PC hardware is sold separately.
