***Iospan Wireless Expands Intellectual Property Portfolio for
Multiple Antenna Technology
(January 28)
Iospan Wireless, Inc., a provider of wireless broadband multiple
antenna technology, today announced that it has been issued a
patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for
optimizing the use of multiple antennas in a wireless system.
This brings Iospan's total number of patent claims to over 1600,
with over 40 patents issued, pending and licensed.
Iospan Wireless' latest patent focuses on the company's ability
to provide broadband wireless systems with a method of
controlling communication parameters in a wireless channel
utilizing multiple antennas. More specifically, this patent
covers the performance optimization of multiple transmit
antennas. Iospan stated that their MIMO-OFDM multiple antenna
technology improves system spectral efficiency, which extends
coverage, increases capacity and enhances Quality of Service
(QoS) in wireless systems. This method can be employed in
virtually any type of wireless communications system, using
multiple access techniques including OFDM, TDMA, CDMA, FDMA, TDD,
and FDD.
Earlier this month, Iospan Wireless announced successful field
trials of the world's first MIMO-OFDM Non-Line-of-Sight (Non-LOS)
fixed broadband wireless system. Iospan stated that these trials
demonstrate the ability of MIMO-OFDM-enabled AirBurst technology
to enable the deployment of next-generation broadband wireless
services. AirBurst technology is designed to allow service
providers to deploy broadband wireless services for both
residential and business applications, that will successfully
compete with existing broadband technologies on cost, coverage,
and capacity.
Iospan Wireless is partnering with leading solutions vendors to
enable service providers with Non-LOS, mass-deployable broadband
wireless access solutions. Iospan Wireless offers AirBurst
chipsets, reference designs and board-level solutions to wireless
OEMs interested in creating broadband wireless systems designed
for the residential and business markets. Iospan's AirBurst is
the only technology that currently meets all of the IEEE 802.16.3
channel models for fixed wireless applications.
Iospan Wireless is continuing field trials of its MIMO-enabled
AirBurst technology through early 2002, demonstrating its
technology to broadband wireless systems integrators, equipment
manufacturers and wireless service providers.
