***NDL Introduces NetImmerse 4.1
(January 9)
Numerical Design Ltd. (NDL) has released an updated version of
the NetImmerse game engine and development toolkit that,
according to the company, is delivering 20- to 50-percent
performance gains when tested on customer applications.
NetImmerse 4.1 includes features such as performance profiling
and memory tracking, batch rendering, integration with the Havok
physics run-time engine, and functionality for plug-ins and
keyframe manager software.
NetImmerse 4.1 performance optimizations have been tested on
games for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, PC and GameCube platforms.
Improvements in NetImmerse's GameCube implementation have sped up
rendering, color and other functions as well.
Other features in NetImmerse 4.1 include:
·Performance profiling and memory tracking that allow developers
to analyze performance on a per-object basis, addressing
bottlenecks early in the game development cycle.
·A batch rendering mode that speeds processing for objects that
have the same render and dynamic-effect states.
·A selective update mode that updates only objects that need to
be changed from one scene to another.
·Integration with the Havok run-time physics engine, including
export and preview within NDL's MAXImmerse plug-in.
·Added features for the MyImmerse Maya plug-in, MAXImmerse 3ds
max plug-in, and the AnImmerse keyframe manager.
·DX8 renderer capabilities, including code changes for increased
performance.
