***Taiwan's TFT-LCD Industry Expected to Rebound in 2001

According to the Commercial Times, Taiwan's thin film transistor
liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) industry is expected to rebound
in 2001 on news that Japan-based Fujitsu has placed orders for
TFT-LCDs with Chi Mei Electronics Co.
Industry analysts consider that Japan may withdraw from
manufacturing TFT-LCDs and increase imports of the product from
Taiwan. Unipac Optoelectronics Corp is to make a T$4.6bn right
issue in the period from February 21 to March 21 2001.
The company's stock price hit the up limit on February 2, with a
record high trading volume. Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd reported
pre-tax earnings per share of T$2.5 for the year 2000, with a
price/earnings ratio of 10. The company is to make a T$100m
rights issue this year.
