***Taiwan's Top Three Notebook Makers Financials Decline
The decline in global demand for notebook computers in the fourth
quarter of 2000 affected most of Taiwan's notebook computer
makers. The top three notebook makers in terms of their total
revenue from last year were the following:
first is Inventec at NT$93.86 billion,
second is Quanta at NT$82.76 billion and the
third is Compal at NT$74.84 billion.
In terms of percentage increase, the highest went to Compal at
59.14 percent, while Inventec was at 47.14 percent and Quanta at
9.9 percent. In terms of total notebook output,
the highest went to Quanta at 2.6 million units,
second is Acer at 1.95 millions while
Compal finished third at 1.85 millions units and
Inventec at 1.6 million units.
Since last year saw the slowdown on PC demand, most of the
notebook manufacturers were forced to lower their notebook prices
to win OEM contracts. This year analysts predict that the output
growth of the local notebook industry will increase 30 to 40
percent.
