***VIA Views on PC Industry in 2001
Last year PC sales fell short of expectations due to a slowdown
that began in July, but VIA predicts that 2001 will be a better
year. It was reported last year that computer component sales
decreased - especially SDRAM memory, which saw a 50 percent drop.
VIA predicts that this year they see a 12-15 percent increase in
PC sales and estimates a worldwide output at 150-160 million
units. They also predict that the notebook market will have show
at least a 20 percent increase.
VIA estimates it shares as 50 percent of the entire chipset
market and roughly 8 percent of the CPU market.
The company sees the need to develop markets in China, India and
the Eastern block of Europe as well as locals market. VIA plans
to introduce 0.13-micron Cyrix III CPU to these markets.
