***Taiwan LCD Panel Manufacturers Add Innovations
It has been noted that price is the largest obstruction to the
growth of LCD monitors (a 15.1-inch LCD panel costs around
US$320). Given that component material cost is unlikely to drop,
the only cost reduction plan is to add more functions to the
machine.
In an effort to maintain LCD panel prices many Taiwan
manufacturers are adding innovations such as Video Input or TV
tuner modules into their LCD panels. For example, GVC Visual
Technology's LCD panel is already slim, small, and light but the
company plans add video functions as well as change the entire
LCD panel design to be more customer-oriented and improve product
applications.
Another strategy being adopted is to develop small-sized consumer
display products, such as auto-multimedia displays, web pads and
LCD TVs.
