***UMC Plans to Raise Wafer Price for Selected Clients in Q2

According to AFX, United Microelectronics Corp said it plans to
increase the contract-manufacturing price for wafers for selected
clients in the second quarter. A representative said wafers using
0.25-micron processing technology are most likely to be subject
to price changes in the second quarter. The official declined to
comment on whether the adjustment would be close to market talks
of about 10 pct from current level.
