***Fuji Electronics To Sell Micron DRAMs In Japan
(January 21)
According to the Nikkei English News, Fuji Electronics has
reached an agreement with Micron Technologies to distribute the
U.S. firm's DRAM products in Japan. The chip trader handled DRAM
products here for Texas Instruments and Motorola four years ago
but pulled out of the business in favor of high-profit items like
Analog Devices's linear system processors.
However, consolidation in the global DRAM industry has left just
four or five major players, opening up space in the Japanese
market for a strong foreign company to enter, according to Fuji
Electronics President Kunio Ikisu. Fuji Electronics plans to
market the devices for use in products like personal computer
peripherals and is targeting first-year sales of about 5 billion
yen.
