***Hitachi To Ship Samples Of USB Microcontrollers
(January 21)
According to the Nikkei English News, Hitachi will begin
shipments in April of six SH-series microcontrollers that are
compatible with the Universal Serial Bus peripheral connection
standard. Equipment incorporating these chips, including digital
cameras, portable CD players and digital home electronics gear,
can hook up to personal computers. Users will then be able to
edit still images and music on their PCs.
The chips are based on Hitachi's existing SH2-DSP, which features
32-bit central processing and digital signal processing
functions. They will be priced at a minimum of 2,700 yen apiece
when ordered in a lot of 10,000 units.
