In November of 1999, the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance
(HomePNA) announced that products based on their HomePNA 1Mbps
specification could be certified and marketed in 19 countries in
Europe (WAVE #2002).
On December 1, 1999 they announced the completion and release of
their second-generation home phoneline networking technology,
which offers 10Mbps networking and is backward compatible with
their first generation specification.
Yet, when we called them to ask for the spec, we were told that
it was only being released to the participants in the program.
The HomePNA's mission is to provide a "single, unified phoneline
networking industry standard and rapidly bring to market a range
of interoperable home networking solutions," yet they won't share
the specification with the press who could inform consumers of
its worth? We were shocked.
