***ON Semiconductor Plans High-Bandwidth IC Strategy High-
Bandwidth ICs Running at 40 Gigabits Per Second
(January 18)

ON Semiconductor, formerly a division of Motorola, announced a
corporate initiative to advance its proprietary high-bandwidth
integrated circuit (IC) products. The initiative is spurred by
the growth of the Internet and backbone technologies that is
creating opportunities for ON Semiconductor's high-bandwidth IC
products. As a result, the company will ramp-up capacity of its
advanced proprietary IC technology. In addition, it will increase
its design and application engineering resources for a customer-
focused thrust in developing new products and packaging
technologies.

The core technology for this initiative is ON Semiconductor's ECL
family of high-performance ICs, which are suited for handling the
high-speed data needs of the Internet and other high-performance,
high-bandwidth applications such as networking,
telecommunications, computing and automated tested equipment
(ATE).

During the last 6 months the company added 20 products to its
existing portfolio of over 270 ECL products, which now is about
twice as large as its nearest competitor. The newest members of
this family can deliver 6 gigabits per second and operate at
speeds within 170 picoseconds and at voltages as low as 2.5
volts. These products are being designed into emerging
applications where CMOS has performance limitations and GaAs is
too costly. Within the next few months ON Semiconductor expects
to add several products to its list of functional building blocks
for high-speed data applications.

ON Semiconductor is a supplier of analog ICs, logic ICs and
discrete semiconductors with shipments of 18 billion units in
1999. Sales in 1998 exceeded $1.5 billion (pro forma).
