***IBM and AOL Agree to Expand Portfolio of Sun-Netscape Alliance
iPlanet Product on AIX
(January 5)

IBM and America Online (AOL) announced that the Sun-Netscape
Alliance will expand the number of iPlanet Internet
infrastructure and e-commerce application products that are
ported to the IBM AIX UNIX platform. Products covered under this
agreement will be marketed by both IBM and the Alliance and sold
by the Alliance. Currently, iPlanet Web Server, Messaging Server
and Directory Server products are available on AIX.

In the first half of this year, the Alliance will begin releasing
AIX versions of its iPlanet Application Server, Calendar Server
and Certificate Management System products as well as e-commerce
applications for corporate procurement, billing, EDI, and
advanced merchandising. AIX runs on IBM RS/6000 servers.

Under the terms of the agreement, resources for porting, testing,
and supporting the applications will be supplied by the Sun-
Netscape Alliance. IBM will provide on-site technical assistance,
development resources, hardware and software to the Alliance to
assist in the porting. In addition, IBM and AOL will allocate
funds for establishing worldwide competency centers and for the
training of IBM Global Services personnel and IBM Business
Partners.

More than 850,000 IBM RS/6000 systems have been shipped to over
125,000 commercial and technical customers around the world. The
RS/6000 family of computers feature IBM RISC-based
microprocessors and run AIX, IBM's UNIX operating system. RS/6000
delivers a complete UNIX offering by combining applications with
hardware, software, service, and support – a combination that
yields high availability, scalability, system management,
performance, and Deep Computing capabilities.
