***Taiwanese Manufacturers Begin to Produce 14.1-inch LCDs

As industry insiders have predicted that 14.1-inch TFT-LCD panels
will become the mainstream size for TFT-LCD panels by the end of
next year, Acer Display Technology Inc. (ADT) and Chimei Opto
Electronics, Corp. will both be mass-producing 14.1-inch LCD
panels. ADT's laminate size is 600mm x720mm, whose most
economical die-cut size is 6 units of 13.3-inch panels or 4 units
of 17-inch panels. However, to penetrate the mainstream market,
ADT has completed the trial production of die cutting 6 units of
14.1-inch LCD panels. Chimei's glass laminate, on the other hand,
is, 620mm x 750mm, and is designed to die cut 6 units of 14.1-
inch panels. As a result, Chimei has already been able to begin
mass production of the 14.1- inch panels.
