***Replay Networks Unveils New Features for ReplayTV Service
(January 5)
Replay Networks has announced new features to the free ReplayTV
Service that is included with the ReplayTV personal video
recorder. With ReplayTV, consumers have the ability to find all
their favorite shows, record them digitally, and then watch them
on-demand. Viewers can set up their own channels based on
personal preferences, such as a favorite show, actor, or
director, or a theme such as golf, drama, or a sports team.
Current ReplayTV features for "live" and recorded TV include:
pause, rewind, fast-forward and instant replay, and the ability
to create show-and theme-based channels. The free ReplayTV
Service is expected to deliver new features to existing ReplayTV
customers in the first quarter of 2000.
New ReplayTV Service features will include:
-- Find Shows - a real-time, key-word search function to locate
actors, show titles, show/movie names, directors, subject-based
shows or any key word such as specific hobbies, sports teams or
other interests.
-- Variable-speed slow motion for viewing live and recorded
programming at three different slow speeds.
-- Still-frame advance for viewing live or recorded action shots
one frame at a time.
-- Save-to-VCR feature for archiving of favorite TV shows and
movies.
-- Preserve-show feature to save a favorite show or movie for
future viewing.
-- Standby mode that turns off the hard drive when not in use.
-- ReplayZones - a "portal" to the world of television,
ReplayZones provides previously planned ReplayZones including
editorial zones such as a movie zone that features a variety of
selections including action flicks, westerns, romantic comedies,
science fiction movies and mysteries. By selecting a category,
viewers can see a list of the upcoming movie listings in that
category and select the desired one for recording.
Sponsored ReplayZones will also be available, such as the CNN/SI
Sports Zone, in which viewers will be able to scroll through
lists of sports shows.
All ReplayTV Service features, including ReplayZones, real-time
search, slow-motion, still-frame advance, preserve show, VCR-
countdown and standby mode, are planned to be automatically
downloaded free to existing ReplayTV customers in the first
quarter of 2000.
ReplayTV is priced at $699 (and includes the free ReplayTV
service) with 20 hours of storage.
Replay has also announced that it proposes to file a registration
statement with respect to an initial, underwritten public
offering of the Company's common stock. The Company intends to
use the proceeds of the newly issued shares to increase working
capital and for general corporate purposes.
