***Low Cost, High Performance Wireless Bridge

Wave Wireless Networking, SPEEDCOM International’s wireless
Internet division, announced the addition of a low-cost wireless
bridge to the SPEEDLAN family of wireless products. SPEEDLAN XE-2
provides network administrators and Internet Service Providers
(ISP) with the ability to connect buildings across the street or
across town without the need for a leased line from the telephone
company.

With a range of up to 25 miles, SPEEDLAN XE-2 provides many
features common to more expensive wireless bridges but at a lower
cost - advanced MAC layer filtering, IP Routing, data encryption
and SNMP management are all included as standard features.

SPEEDLAN XE-2 supports everything from simple point-to-point
connections to more complex point-to-multipoint operations.
Configured as a Base Station, the XE-2 can support up to 16
remote locations. This single, self-contained unit can easily
integrate into almost any network environment in just one
afternoon.

The SPEEDLAN XE-2 is compatible with all IEEE 802.3 and 802.2 LAN
devices, all computer platforms and operating systems, and is
completely transparent to the network operating system. More
than just a simple MAC layer bridge, SPEEDLAN XE-2 provides
advanced traffic and IP routing capabilities. By filtering
traffic based on MAC address or Ethernet protocol type, network
administrators can optimize their inter-building communications
and help maintain network security.

The SPEEDLAN XE-2 utilizes the FCC license-free 2.4GHz frequency
band. Providing 2 Mbps of bandwidth, its radio utilizes Direct
Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology. This technology,
originally developed by the US military for secure transmissions
of their own wireless data, allows the SPEEDLAN XE-2 to send data
over a broad frequency range rather than a single frequency.
Transparent to the end-user, DSSS allows the SPEEDLAN XE-2 to
provide highly secure and reliable communications.

SPEEDLAN XE-2 Product Line will be priced as follows:

SPEEDLAN XE-2P Point-to-Point ($2900)
SPEEDLAN XE-2B Wireless Base Station ($3500)
SPEEDLAN XE-2S Satellite Unit ($2900).

All SPEEDLAN XE-2 products ship with a full installation kit
including:
high-gain antenna, low-loss antenna cable, lightning arrestor,
mounting brackets, and accessory items.
