***Etak Launches GeoEngine 3.0
(March 15)

Etak introduced GeoEngine 3.0, a fully-integrated map development
software program enabling users to create high-performance
client-server and desktop mapping applications.

Using GeoEngine’s, developers have the ability to enhance
application performance, enabling rapid prototyping and
deployment with minimal development costs. GeoEngine is
particularly useful for the development of map applications that
require rapid map display, more positional accurate data, and
location and path analysis.

GeoEngine 3.0 offers support for client/server applications and
easier address to address pathfinding. Also included are
utilities for drawing circles, lines and polygons on top of map
data.

GeoEngine provides an integrated, modular development
environment. The software offers fast map generation and display
and geocoding capabilities. Three updated optional components,
Spatial Query Plug-in, Pathfinding Plug-in, and Navigation Plug-
in, offer more functionality.

With GeoEngine’s client/server support for applications, users
can develop a stand-alone application or distribute it across a
network with differing data sets and locations. Sophisticated
algorithms support high-quality labeling, configurable map
appearance, multiple windows support and the overlay and
manipulation of user data.

Geocoding, the assignment of geographic coordinates to addresses
so they may be displayed on a map, has also been enhanced in
GeoEngine 3.0. When working with EtakMap Premium, Etak’s
positionally-accurate digital map database, GeoEngine returns
improved match rates and the accurate coordinates needed for
functions such as spatial queries and pathfinding.

Because user input and location-related needs vary, GeoEngine
performs multiple types of geocoding through interactive or batch
processing. Locations may be pinpointed via address,
intersection, city name or latitude/longitude coordinate.

A complete set of parameters is provided to implement user-
definable search strategies. In addition, reverse geocoding
allows the user to retrieve location information for any point on
the map.

Available first quarter 1999, GeoEngine 3.0 is priced from
$10,000 with the optional modules (Spatial Query Plug-in,
Pathfinding Plug-in, and Navigation Plug-in) available at an
additional cost. Operating system requirements include Intel 486,
75Mhz or better, minimum 16MB RAM, Windows 95 or NT 4.0, Visual
Basic 5.0, Visual C++ 5.0 and VGA display 640x480. Disk space
needed depends on one’s application. Etak digital map databases
are licensed separately.
