***DVD Replication to Hit 273 Million Units in 2000
(March 15)

North American DVD replication will reach 273 million units in
the year 2000, up from 68 million in 1998, according to
preliminary data from the Worldwide Optical Media Market
Intelligence Report, commissioned by the International Recorded
Media Association (IRMA).

DVD-ROM replication is expected to increase nearly tenfold by
2000, climbing to 85 million. But DVD-Video will continue to
represent the bulk of DVD replication demand, with 170 million
units projected for 2000, up from 59 million in 1998. DVD-Audio
replication will finally become a factor, following the recent
finalization of the version 1.0 DVD-Audio spec and the recording
industry accord on copy protection reached earlier this month.
