***Ganymede Software’s Pegasus Software Enables IT Managers to
Pinpoint Cause of Performance Problems
(March 15)

Ganymede Software introduced a updated version of its Pegasus
Network Monitor, the Pegasus 1.2 is a performance monitor that
proactively alerts corporate IT managers or service providers to
end-to-end performance problems and then isolates the cause of
those problems. The Pegasus software can also predict future end-
to-end performance problems and enables IT departments to offer
more tailored service level agreements.

Pegasus Network Monitor, introduced in July, 1998, measures the
end-to-end performance of networked applications over time.
Pegasus measures performance in terms of response time,
throughput and availability—metrics that help IT departments
understand application performance from the user’s perspective.

For each network connection being monitored, Pegasus keeps track
of all of the routes traveled between a client and a server. Over
time, Pegasus establishes a baseline for the hop-to-hop latency
in each route. When a performance problem is identified, Pegasus
automatically determines which route was taken. Then Pegasus
compares the baseline latency for the route to the actual latency
when the problem occurred to pinpoint the source of the problem.

Pegasus 1.2 also conducts trend analysis so that it can predict
future performance problems. Pegasus alerts IT managers to
locations or applications that have been experiencing steadily
degrading network performance.

Pegasus 2.1 can analyze performance by location or by department,
enabling SLA providers to offer different levels of service to
different groups within an organization.

Pegasus 1.2 is available immediately. For customers with a
service contract in place, there is no cost for the software
upgrade. Pegasus prices start at $7,500.
