Although Intel is careful to position this card as not being in
competition with other OEMs and card companies it is impossible
to avoid market conflicts. It is clear that Intel intends to
have a major presence in the 3D market and the card will be
pushed aggressively by Intel. We expect the bundling deals to
expand and this will be used by Intel to make this card all the
more attractive. We believe that there is a limit with which
Intel can “have its cake and eat it too.” That is, as Intel’s
efforts increasingly conflict with others selling similar
products, including Real3D, the attractiveness of the i740
outside of the Intel channel will diminish. As the PC industry
has long known – you cannot create partners with your products
on one hand and with the other hand destroy their prospects for
business by competing with them.
