Cyrix Announces $500 Windows NT System

Cyrix Corp. has a MediaGX processor reference design for a desktop PC
that runs Windows NT 5.0 and can cost as little as $500. Until now, the
MediaGX has been used in consumer-oriented products sold through retail.
But Cyrix will leverage the integration work it has already done in
MediaGX to enable $500-to-$1,000 PCs. The new design incorporates a
MediaGX processor, 10/100M-bps Ethernet and a BIOS that enables remote
booting for off-hours maintenance. Although the MediaGX currently tops
out at 180MHz, Cyrix is expected to deliver 200MHz and 233MHz processors
in January.
