0530.1 Online Backup Service

***Hewlett-Packard to Resell Spare Backup Service; Companies Team to Deliver Fully Automated Backup Service to HP Customers

PALM DESERT, Calif.
July 25, 2005

Hewlett-Packard has announced that it intends to resell Spare Backup Inc.'s fully automated online backup service directly through its Web site as early as next month.

Spare Backup Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Newport International Group, offers the most effortless backup service ever designed for small business users, business travelers and professionals who work extra hours from home. From set-up through file selection and scheduling, no user interaction is required. Instead, the Spare Backup service on its own instantly recognizes files on the user's hard drive, including Outlook e-mails, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, digital photos, QuickBooks files and MP3 music files and more. Each file, along with the data needed to preserve its unique look and feel, is then replicated, encrypted twice and transported over the user's broadband Internet connection every weeknight. From there, the backup files are stored in Spare's twin secure data centers, where they are accessible from any high-speed Internet-connected computer anywhere.

As part of HP's commitment to small businesses, the company will offer Spare Backup service via their e-commerce Web site. Two months of free service will also be provided as a special promotion to customers who purchase selected hardware and peripherals through the HP site. The Spare Backup service backs up individual desktop and notebook computers and normally costs $15.99 a month. HP will offer discounted plans of six-months, one-year and two-years pre-paid service. All of the Spare Backup service plans include up to 5 gigabytes of secure, remote storage.

0530.2 Biometric IDs

***IDS Worldwide Solutions, Inc. Introduces Bio-Track Identification System, A Proprietary Biometric ID Card Including Facial and Fingerprint Biometrics and Digital Signature Scan

ORLANDO, Fla.
July 25, 2005

IDS Worldwide Solutions, Inc. is a holding company engaged in the design, manufacture, development, and marketing of solutions for security, antifraud, law enforcement, and other applications. The company provides fingerprint and facial biometric, and digital signature technologies all incorporated on one identification card, as well as Hardware and Software systems that rapidly and positively identify individuals to insure security in a variety of local and wide area applications.

IDS leverages real-world, hands-on experience with all biometrics - including fingerprint, face, and digital signature systems - to successfully design, integrate, and deploy access control, IT security, smart card, transportation, and ID systems solutions. IDS is one of the only biometric security companies to successfully combine multiple biometric identification verification factors in one ID Card.

The company's offerings include Bio-Track scan systems and services for biometric data capture; mobile systems for on-the-spot ID; and backend standards-based modules and software components for biometric matching and data mining. In addition, the company provides biometric identification hardware, which can be utilized for various security-related markets to conduct background checks; travel and commerce via identification documents; check identity fraud in government and civil ID programs; and check access to secure areas and networks. The company's products enable government, banking, law enforcement agencies, travel, transportation, corporate enterprise, and the healthcare sectors to implement secure identification procedures and safeguard sensitive data archives.

It has been reported in a recent study that the Department of Homeland Security's spending on biometrics systems integration totaled $650 million in 2004 and is projected to reach $1.9 billion by 2011. In May 2005 the Real ID Act was passed as a rider on an appropriations bill to fund the Iraq war and tsunami relief. Under the act, each licensed driver will receive on their driver's license a national identification number, which he or she will have to provide to use any federally regulated service, such as airlines or banks. It has also been reported that biometrics will be used as part of the new federal identification process.

It's estimated that the market for machines that screen people will grow to $3.5 billion in 2006 and to $9.9 billion in 2010. Luggage and large parcel screening will grow to $1.2 billion in 2006 and to $3.5 billion in 2010, and the market for hand-held baggage will increase to $1.25 billion in 2006 and $3.4 billion in 2010.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology, however, has said fingerprints are more reliable.

"Fingerprints are more accurate than face recognition in operational environments," said Martin Herman, chief of NIST's information access division. NIST, however, has not tested facial recognition reliability in three years he said.

In 2002, NIST found that the accuracy of two-fingerprint matching was 99.6 percent; facial recognition was 90 percent. "We believe there have been improvements in facial recognition since then," he added.

The new cards were mandated in Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, titled "Policy for a Common Identification Standard for Federal Employees and Contractors." More detailed objectives for the Personal ID Verification (PIV) Card were laid out in Federal Information Processing Standard 201, and specifications for the standard are spelled out in a series of special publications from the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

0530.3 Compliance Success

***Network Intelligence Survey Reveals That Collecting and Managing All the Data for Security & Compliance Seen as Key Driver for 94 Percent of Customers

WESTWOOD, Mass.
July 26, 2005

Network Intelligence Corp. has announced the results of a customer survey conducted at the first annual Network Intelligence End-User Conference on Best Practices in Compliance & Security. The survey found that 94 percent of respondents capture and manage all the data from various devices for regulatory compliance reporting and alerting. Network Intelligence's LogSmart Internet Protocol Database (IPDB) is the critical component to efficiently achieving IT compliance and effective enterprise-wide security as it allows customers to automatically capture and analyze security event and operational information from their network, security, application and operating system environments.

LogSmart IPDB provides the most scalable log collection database system available, and it is the only optimized database for a write-once read-many approach. Capable of sustaining data collection speeds in excess of 300,000 events per second, the LogSmart IPDB enables users to easily collect, log, analyze and report on terabytes of data per month. With its industry-unique technology approach, Network Intelligence customers capture and analyze operational and security event information from every IP device in the enterprise in a cost-effective fashion. Under this approach, all log and event information is captured, from all IP devices, without filtering, data reduction or the use of agents. Network Intelligence's agent-less based log-collection architecture enables enterprises to reliably capture all the data without the additional complexity or administrative overhead that agent-based solutions require. When compared to first generation Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems, the impact of all the data is clear as success or failure.

Survey results also include a breakdown of specific regulations with which Network Intelligence helps customers comply. For example, more than 26 percent of customers are using the solution for HIPAA, 29 percent for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and five percent for Payment Card Industry Standard (PCI). Customers also cited the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 and California SB 1386 as other regulations for which they leverage Network Intelligence's solutions.

0530.6 IT Opportunities

***Majority of U.S.-Based IT Organizations Expect to Increase Headcount in the Next 12 Months, According to Gartner Study

STAMFORD, Conn.
July 25, 2005

Employment opportunities in information technology (IT) are increasing in 2005, however employers overall say the pace of IT workforce expansion will be moderate over the next 12 months, according to the 2005 IT Market Compensation study by Gartner, Inc. Executive Program's (EXP) unit.

According to the survey, the financial services sector will be most active in IT recruiting with 63 percent of those companies projecting some level of increase in IT headcount. Among financial services firms surveyed, 22.2 percent anticipate an IT staff increase of more than 10 percent. The public, non-profit market is the second most active sector, with 62 percent of companies projecting headcount increases.

Overall, 66 percent of organizations surveyed by Gartner EXP project some level of increase in IT staffing. This includes full-time employees and contractors as supplementary staff.

The findings in EXP's "2005 IT Market Compensation Study" are based on research compiled from survey data submitted by 160 organizations as of March 1, 2005. The study includes detailed compensation data for 48,586 IT employees within the United States.

Gartner EXP said the factors that attract IT professionals to join a company may not be the same as those that keep them satisfied on the job. According to the survey, IT professionals are attracted to companies by company reputation, followed by pay and work environment. However, as employees progress through their career lifecycle, their needs and values change. Therefore, companies need to examine employee demographics and personalize their human capital management (HCM) programs to effectively attract and retain these employees and minimize unwanted turnover.

The survey shows that the average budgeted base salary increase for IT employees in the 2005 fiscal year is 3.5 percent, or 0.3 percent higher than in the 2004 fiscal year. Companies also appear to have increased the variable pay portion of their reward package. A larger payout is realized as business results start to improve.

Other findings from this study include:

-- The most difficult-to-hire positions for IT organizations include project manager, web applications programmer, security analyst, database administrator and network engineer. The increased search for project managers, for instance, suggests that companies are starting to focus on more effectively managing and prioritizing projects that can deliver a competitive advantage for the business.

-- The skills that IT organizations report having the greatest difficulty recruiting are PeopleSoft, J2EE Microsoft.Net, Java, Oracle, Visual C#.Net, SAP, XML and XML Web Services.

0530.7 Lightening Protection

***Demand from Various End-User Industries Spur Lightning Protection Technology Market

PALO ALTO, Calif.
July 27, 2005

State legislatures mandating the installation of lightning protection technology (LPT) systems in schools, hospitals, and other public buildings have greatly bolstered demand for the product. The telecommunications and wireless sectors can also provide a major thrust to the LPT market, as their control towers and base stations need protection from lightening strikes.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, World Lightning Protection Technology Market, reveals that market revenue totaled $450.2 million in 2004 and expects to reach $695.5 million in 2011.

Rapid infrastructure development and greater industrialization develop as market drivers because the increasing number of industries in the world is a positive sign for the LPT market. Greater use of electronic equipment, in both homes and offices, can also hike demand for these devices.

Major LPT and grounding equipment end users such as utilities, water treatment and nuclear power plants, warehouses, seaports, airports, the military, broadcast industry, houses as well as residential complexes, and healthcare will stimulate product demand significantly. Commercial sectors including offices, stadiums, and golf courses are other likely sources of revenue.

Despite such bright prospects, the LPT market is restrained by confusion and misinterpretation among customers on protection products. Every country has different standards and regulations and such disorder can waste time, money, and other resources.

In the U.S. market, participants have to compulsorily meet National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 780 and the Underwriter's Laboratories (UL) 96A standard. The European International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 1024 is the most essential and widely adopted document for LPTs.

LPT vendors' primary focus is the rationalization of products to accommodate different standards. Meanwhile, manufacturers have to retest and redesign their devices to meet the requirements and specifications of global industry standards.

Apart from the issue of agreeing upon standards, market participants need to expose potential customers to new technology. This concern is especially relevant for smaller companies that are apprehensive about investing in novel systems due to their lack of adequate infrastructure and resources.

0530.8 Mobile Demographics

***M:Metrics: What Your Carrier Says about You; Benchmark Survey Shows That Mobile Carriers Are Distinct in Demographic Make-Up and Content Consumption

SEATTLE
July 25, 2005

If you're an 18-year-old male who downloads mobile games, you're more than twice more likely to be a customer of Sprint than any other carrier. M:Metrics, the authority on the consumption of mobile content and applications, has found that there are distinct demographic characteristics among the top traditional carriers and MNVOs.

M:Metrics found that carriers like T-Mobile and Sprint have a high percentages of younger subscribers, particularly those between the ages of 18-34, the most voracious consumers of mobile content. As a result, mobile content consumption on both networks is above average, particularly in gaming, photo messaging and text messaging.

Nextel's subscriber base is even more niche. Nextel subscribers are 47.4 percent more likely to be a 35 to 44 year old male compared with subscribers on other networks, and the carrier has the highest percentage of users whose household annual income surpasses $100,000 per year. Interestingly, a Nextel bill is four-times more likely to be paid directly by an employer than a bill from any other carrier.

Tracfone and Virgin Mobile, the largest MVNOs in the United States, reflect two extremes of the mobile market. Although consumers of both services spend roughly the same amount on mobile services and have similar household incomes, Virgin subscribers are heavy users of mobile content, whereas Tracfone subscribers are not. In June less than two percent (1.95 percent) of Tracfone customers downloaded a ringtone, compared with about 20 percent of Virgin customers.

According to M:Metrics data, with 16.9 percent of its subscriber base being comprised of 13 to 17-year-olds, Virgin has more than twice as many of this age group than average and Tracfone has almost double the average number of subscribers 65 years old and above, accounting for 22.3 percent of its base.

Conversely, as the largest carriers, Verizon and Cingular reflect the mass market, and attract subscribers who are 45 and older, whom are less likely to consume mobile content. M:Metrics found that 55.8 percent of all U.S. mobile phone users older than 65 are subscribers to one of these networks. Subscribers in this age group have very low propensity to use even basic data services. For example, only 10.24 percent of subscribers in this age group had sent a text message in a month during the quarter ended June, compared with a market average of 37.28 percent.

M:Metrics' monthly Benchmark Survey provides the most detailed and accurate data on the consumption of mobile content, the demographics of mobile media users and benchmarks for the performance of mobile operators in the United States. It is available only to subscribers of the M:Metrics Syndicated Measurement Service.

About M:Metrics

M:Metrics is the mobile industry authority on the measurement of the consumption, availability and feasibility of mobile content and applications. M:Metrics' monthly syndicated research services benchmark the performance of carriers, handset OEMs, platform vendors and content providers, empowering decision makers with highly granular, verifiable measures of subscriber consumption, content availability and pricing and handset capabilities. 0530.9 Tablet PC Market

***In-Stat Reports Tablet PC Market to Exceed $5 Billion in 2009

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.
July 26, 2005

The Tablet PC market is nearing its three-year anniversary with increased shipments, but mixed success overall, reports In-Stat. Referring to PCs that run Microsoft's Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system, Tablet PC shipments have yet to reach the lofty heights that some backers predicted upon launch. The next few years will show some significant growth, however, with the worldwide market rising from $1.2 billion in 2004 to $5.4 billion in 2009, the high-tech market research firm said.

According to In-Stat, broad horizontal corporate markets should start to make an impact on the market in 2005, as average selling prices fall well below $2,000. A combination of greater Tablet PC software availability and larger form factors that directly address the corporate market should help Tablet PC sales.

A recent report by In-Stat found the following:

-- Vertical markets, such as health care, real estate, insurance, and sales force automation, continued to be a driving factor in 2004 Tablet PC shipments.

-- Acer, Fujitsu, HP, Motion Computing and Toshiba were among the leaders in 2004 Tablet PC shipments.

-- Availability of an integrated next-generation Tablet PC operating system in Microsoft's Longhorn operating system would have a significant impact on Tablet PC sales.

-- Microsoft's recently announced Ultra Mobile 2007 portable PC form factor could have a significant impact of future Tablet PC shipments.

The report, "Tablet PC 2005: Increasing Shipments Amid a Cloudy Future" (#IN0501830ID), contains worldwide annual unit shipment and revenue forecasts for Tablet PCs through 2009, and an annual regional breakdown of Tablet PC shipments through 2009. Also included are 2004 Tablet PC shipments and revenues by vendor, as well as 2004 vendor shipments by region. Extensive analysis of Tablet PCs in both horizontal and vertical markets is included, as well as the potential of Tablet PCs in the consumer segment.

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.
July 25, 2005

Well, it's about time. As basements, garages, storage room and spare offices are filled to overflowing with all those electronics that we've been buying for the past thirty years, not to mention the glut of discarded electronics that are taking up valuable space in our landfills, producers of electronics are beginning to take note of the environment and are establishing a commitment for the world of future generations. The Canon Consumer Products Recycling Program is one of those emerging companies who recognize the need for that kind of investment.

Although Canon is restricting their recycling program to Canon products, it's a start. Now, where is the entrepeneur who can recycle the entire spectrum of computers, copiers, cameras and anything else that is broken, outmoded, outdated, or just plain replaced.

For eligible Canon products, consumers can log on to their website and, for a nominal fee, order a UPS shipping label by clicking the "Recycle Now" button. The shipping label will be sent via e-mail. If the printer being used does not print labels, customers can call 1.800.385.2155 to order over the phone and receive a shipping label by mail.

0530.12 Solar Energy

***Solar Power Breakthrough; New Low-Cost Solar Energy May Replace Gas

SALEM, Utah
July 27, 2005

Will solar energy ever overtake the oil market? The solar revolution may be closer than you think.

Breakthrough solar power technology developed by International Automated Systems Inc. may become the first solar to compete with gas. Low-cost energy produced by IAUS' new patented and patent-pending solar technology can be used to generate electricity or produce clean fuels such as hydrogen and green methanol (gasoline replacements) at a competitive price.

IAUS' thin-film solar panels can be produced at a fraction of the cost of today's photovoltaic solar panels. IAUS is on schedule to begin mass production of its solar panels by September 2005. Once in production, IAUS will be able to turn out nearly 200 megawatts of solar panels yearly, nearly 10 times greater capacity than a $100 million photovoltaic fabrication plant.

A solar area of only 100 square miles -- a size of land that equals only nine percent of the state of Nevada -- can generate enough electricity for the entire United States.

The world energy market is $3 trillion per year. This $3 trillion does not represent nearly 30% of the world without electricity.

0530.13 Speech Recognition

***TeleData Technology Announces Improved Speech Recognition Capabilities in its T3 Platform

NEW YORK
July 26, 2005

TeleData Technology's speech recognition capabilities continue to expand with the release of enhancements to its ASR (automatic speech recognition) technology. TeleData Technology incorporates Natural Speech Communication's (NSC) ASR technology into their T3 Platform to develop a range of messaging solutions, enabling highly reliable speech recognition from telephones, cell phones and speaker phones. These recent enhancements bring further flexibility to organizations who implement speech recognition in their telephony applications:

-- Flexible recognition parameters: More flexible recognition parameters allow the T3 Platform to customize the sensitivity of the speech recognition experience. Parameters can be set to accommodate the call environment (for example, whether calls tend to come in on cell phones or car phones), the duration of time the system will 'listen' to the caller, and whether or not the customer wants the system to recognize first name, last name, or both.

-- Echo cancellation: Improved echo cancellation helps reduce false "barge-in" due to background noise and non- relevant utterances.

-- Languages: The T3 Platform supports speech recognition in North American English, UK English, Russian, German, Hebrew and Arabic. In addition, NSC language resources contain a database of more than 60 languages which enable fast adoption of new languages to the T3 platform

Speech recognition can be implemented in a variety of telephony applications that decrease operational costs and increase customer satisfaction. Using intuitive voice commands, callers gain immediate access to the information they need by easily interacting with automated attendants to access global directories; using voice commands to access messages, eliminating the need for touch tone operation of voice mail; and using service centers efficiently and effectively through voice-activated IVR systems.

In the coming months TeleData will release a full-featured, speech-based voice messaging system based on NSC's technology.

0530.14 Appliance Forecasts

***DisplaySearch Launches Comprehensive Quarterly TV Cost and Price Forecast Model Covering All TV Technologies and Sizes

AUSTIN, Texas
July 26, 2005

DisplaySearch is launching a one-of-a-kind forecast model that should prove extremely useful to the entire TV market supply chain including retailers, TV brands, OEMs, panel/tube/imager suppliers and IC producers, other component manufacturers, and market analysts.

The Quarterly TV Cost and Price Forecast Model creates an accurate bill of materials for each TV technology - CRT TVs, LCD TVs, PDP TVs, CRT RPTVs, LCD RPTVs, DLP RPTVs and LCOS RPTVs - at every major size and resolution. This is achieved through DisplaySearch's team of dedicated TV supply chain experts in China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the United States.

In addition, this database provides historical volume-weighted average pricing for each technology and size on a quarterly basis, leveraging DisplaySearch's North American sell-through relationships. Comparing actual costs vs. actual prices allows users to determine which TV technologies and sizes are generating the highest and lowest margins.

Besides providing historical costs, prices and margins, this model also forecasts costs, prices and margins for every TV technology. DisplaySearch is projecting every single component in its bill of materials forward at least 16 quarters, updated every quarter. Margins are then projected to determine street prices. The model also separates brand and retail margins, allowing report users to set their brand and channel margin targets to determine anticipated future street prices and make comparisons with other TV technologies.

According to DisplaySearch, With numerous competing TV technologies in the market, a model that includes the latest and most accurate results and projections for cost, price and margin would be extremely useful to the TV supply chain. Retailers and TV brands alike want to know which technologies are likely to have a cost advantage and what the cost and price gaps are likely to be at various sizes between different technologies. At the same time, component suppliers want to know what prices they need to reach to hit critical street prices. DisplaySearch feels this model is a tremendous value, offering volume-weighted average sell-through pricing, historical costs and margins, and the latest cost, price and margin forecasts for all TV technologies and sizes.

DisplaySearch will discuss its TV cost and price forecast model and the near- and long-term outlook for TV pricing at its upcoming HDTV Conference on August 23 and August 24.
